Three gardens in Weymouth & Portland among best in Britain

Weymouth and Portland in Dorset can now boast three of the very best gardens in Britain in 2014.

Easton Gardens on Portland and Sandsfoot Gardens and Greenhill Gardens in Weymouth have all won prestigious Green Flag awards.

The awards, which are given out by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognise and reward the best parks, gardens and green spaces across the country.

All three gardens in Weymouth and Portland have great facilities. Easton Gardens has mature trees, a play area and toilets. Greenhill Gardens on Weymouth Seafront is surrounded by a putting green, bowling green, tennis courts, cafes and toilets. Sandsfoot Gardens has a café, toilets and the remains of a Tudor castle in its grounds.

New Portland Tourist Information Centre opens

A new Portland tourist information centre at The Heights Hotel on Portland, Dorset has officially been opened by South Dorset MP Richard Drax. The new visitor centre will have information about local attractions, details of events and shows, public transport information, gifts and souvenirs, as well as an on-site coffee shop and a free car park.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council closed the TIC at Portland Bill lighthouse last year as part of budget cuts and started looking for ways to provide tourist information in association with local businesses. The Council has provided a one-off financial contribution of almost £4500 to help create this new tourist information centre on Portland.
