Breathtaking in its simplicity…….Low tech becomes hi tech.
“The most honest, awe-inspiring and exhilarating circus it has ever been my privilege to see”
    Evening Standard

The internationally acclaimed Chinese State Circus is to return to the UK in 2016 after a break of three years returning to its roots in an innovatively spectacular new production – “DYNASTY”.

Breathtaking in its simplicity, “DYNASTY” projects into a contemporary setting an art form that has thrilled audiences for more than 2,000 years where low-tech everyday objects are transformed into hi-tech acrobatic equipment. Hurtling porcelain jars….dynamically spinning plates… balancing upon gigantic pyramids of tables and chairs framed by the delicate strands of silk supporting cascading aerialists.

“Never has such excitement been generated in a theatre. The whole audience hangs breathless”
    Manchester Evening News

Stunning world class Chinese acrobats, aerial artistes and jugglers interact with the super-human physical skills and dexterity of the masters of martial arts – the legendary Shaolin Warriors.

The nonstop action from start to awesome finale as thrill follows thrill is set to a soaring musical score accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Chinese percussion. Its outstanding acrobatic achievement that could until now could only be created video through special effects– yet performed live in front of an audience what seems impossible becomes a reality. It is what has earned the CHINESE STATE CIRCUS the accolade “incomparable”.

The history of the Chinese State Circus spans 25 years when it was conceived by Creative Director Phillip Gandey who became the first Circus Director in Europe to obtain permission from the Chinese Cultural authorities to be allowed to tour a Big Top production of his own creation performed entirely by Chinese acrobats.

Phillip has spent a considerable time travelling extensively throughout China to select the very best circus artistes who will not only be worthy of continuing the proud and unequalled tradition of acrobatic excellence in the Chinese State Circus but also be capable of raising the “incomparable” standards to even higher contemporary heights.

“In our latest production we have returned to the pure and honest perfection in acrobatics upon which our reputation is based,” said Phillip. “We have the world class artistes capable of performing the excellence required. In “DYNASTY” we have created a show with:
    no gimmicks…no fakes…no retakes…quite simply…the incomparable Chinese State Circus.”

    07 Feb

Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, Dorset

    07/02/2016 To 07/02/2016

    8:00 am To 3:00 pm

The Portland Coastal Marathon 2016 will be taking place from the iconic Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on Sunday 7th February.

Along with the full distance event there will be a Half marathon and a 10k so all abilities can take part in this festival of running in a what is possibly the most stunning of coastal trail locations. This is a run of dramatic, rugged cliffs, nationally rare plants, hidden coves and stunning views.

The Isle of Portland is a large mass of limestone which is linked to the mainland by the shingle ridge of Chesil Beach. Centuries of quarrying and military presence have altered the natural landscape, leaving visible records of the history of this important part of Dorset. The Isle’s white limestone has been used for construction since Roman times. Nature has reclaimed some of the disused quarries, which become a stunning mass of grasses and wildflowers in the spring and summer months. The run will take you clockwise around the South West Coastal Path for the first loop of the island, taking you past the recently built Osprey Quay around to Portland Castle, heading up Merchants Railway to the Verne – The impressive architecture of The Verne Citadel: now used as a prison, the citadel was designed by Captain W Crossman of the Royal Engineers and enclosed an area of 56 acres on the highest point of Portland. Work began in the mid 1800s and the Great Verne Ditch took 30 years to complete. The run continues along behind the back of the YOI and down Goat Hill. You will be running past one of the best places and most popular areas to climb in Dorset along the old disused railway line until you reach the back of Rufus Castle. The remains of the striking Rufus Castle, which is thought to have been built originally for the red-headed William II, who was nicknamed Rufus. Much of what remains dates from the 15th century. The views stretch out to the English Channel for miles to sea and you may get a welcome message from your phones provider welcoming you to France! Heading along from the Castle you will descend in to Church Ope Cove: this is the only beach on the eastern side of the island and is a peaceful, sheltered spot with soft sands, making it a good place for a picnic. The next prominent point will be Pulpit Rock and Portland Bill: especially dramatic on a rough day, the southernmost tip of the island fills you with an exhilarating feeling of space as you take in the spectacular views which extend to Start Point in Devon and ahead to Durlston Head in the east. On a clear day you can actually see more of the coast from here than from any other part of the entire South West Coast Path. The distinctive red and white striped Portland Bill Lighthouse is at the tip of the Island where the centre is open to visitors from Sunday to Friday between 11.00 and 17.00 from April to September, and it is also possible to climb the 153 steps to the top of the tower for some exceptional views. Heading back towards the Sailing Academy you will encounter breathtaking views from the top of West Cliff back along Chesil Beach and the Fleet Lagoon, which is the largest tidal lagoon in Britain and a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the extraordinarily rich variety of wildlife found here. The ‘Spirit of Portland’ sculpture which depicts a fisherman and quarryman to represent the two main industries of the Isle can be seen before descending down Lankridge Hill on the Southwest coastal path – towards the Cove Inn – one of the finest pubs in the land (We’re not biased in anyway!) The final section of the first loop will take you out along Hamm Beach before a 180 turn sending you back to the Sailing Academy. At this point you will cross the timing mat for your half way split and you will be sent on your way for loop 2. This loop will be run in an anticlockwise direction making you retrace your steps giving you the opposite views to what you may have seen on your first time around. With this naturally stunning location, Olympic facilities, brilliant course support and rewarding finishers mementos, you can enter any of the races and you will be guaranteed a stunning day out.

Early entry £35 from now until end of July 2015
Normal entry £40 from 1st August till end December
    Late entry £45 from 1st January 2016

Please note – entries will close when we reach 500 or 24th January, which ever comes sooner. There will be NO entries on the day. This is a No Kit NO Race event, please read all of the information before entering, you will have random spot checks of your mandatory kit, if you are found not to have it you will be DQ’d – this is for your own and others safety and it really isn’t very much to carry.

All competitors will receive a high quality tech tee shirt, medal and full bragging rights at future events.

Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, Dorset DT5 1SA

    19/06/2016 To 19/06/2016

    7:00 am To 1:00 pm

One of the biggest reasons for taking part in the Race to the Bill Triathlon is that Weymouth and Portland, and the rest of the south coast, has the sunniest climate in the United Kingdom. The race base for this Classic and Sprint triathlon is at the iconic National Sailing Academy, host to the 2012 Olympic sailing events whose facilities are not to be rivalled. The swim will take place in the crystal clear blue waters of a sheltered harbour surrounded by a large stone wall, Some 250,000 tonnes of Portland Stone was used in creating the 875m breakwater. The start and finish of the swim will be on a slipway, no sand or rocks to disrupt your run back to transition. The transition is inside the sailing academy’s large hanger providing shade or cover from the great British elements. The bike route will take you on a journey around the Isle of Portland, similar to the route taken by Sir Christopher Wren who used six million tonnes of white Portland limestone to rebuild destroyed parts of London after the Great Fire of London of 1666 and also St Paul’s Cathedral, visiting such sights as Portland Bill Lighthouse, first lit on 11 January 1906. After the bike you will head back to race HQ and commence your run along the shoreline of Hamm Beach, well know for its world record breaking speed week with windsurfers all over the globe and along on to the Rodwell Trail, the old railway line that linked Weymouth to Portland and is now a very scenic, traffic free walk. The race will finish back at the Sailing Academy where you will be rewarded like heroes and lavish gifts bestowed upon you.

The Weymouth Middle Distance Triathlon 2016 weekend will consist of three separate races: a sprint, a classic and a half iron distance triathlon to coincide with your training plans for your big one later in the year. With race HQ based at Weymouth College, this is the ideal location for all of the family. It is close to the Weymouth Sealife Centre and is within 200 metres of the very secure transition area, not to mention the beach. There are plenty of facilities, cafe, toilets and parking all within 10 metres of your bike. There is something for everyone at this event whether you are taking part or spectating, this one should be a must for your 2016 race diary. The swim will be an open water affair in the beautiful blue waters of Weymouth Bay. The rolling cycle course will be a flattish (as best we can do in Dorset!) fast one for all three events with the route taking in some breathtaking scenery. The bike route for the Half Iron course will be taking place on mainly long flattish roads and we have worked hard to create this epic route. The run will be a short blast around the Lodmoor nature reserve for the sprint and Classic and just ever so slightly longer for the half. All three events will be powered by GU Energy around the whole course, plus some excellent prizes at the end for the top three males and females and the top age grouper in each category. Race mementos will be our exclusive and much sought after tech Ts. All three events will be chip timed by FullOnSport.
